How Much Does First Aid Training Cost?

June 28, 2023

First aid skills are not something you can teach yourself.

To become proficient in delivering first aid, you need to attend an accredited course run by a professional who will cover the essential skills, evaluate your progress, and grant you the qualification.

This is particularly important for employers and managers who want their staff to become first aid certified to ensure that their business is health and safety compliant. With that in mind, you might be wondering:
“How much does first aid training cost?”
The answer depends on a few key factors:

  • The type of training you require
  • The number of people you require to participate
  • The level to which participants need to be trained
  • The level of experience the training company has
In this blog, we will break down how much first aid training costs, to help you find
the solution that is best for your needs.

Factor #1 – The type of training you require

The first thing you need to understand regarding how much first aid training costs, is the type of training you require.

To get a better idea of the training you need, we recommend checking out this First Aid Requirements calculator.

All you need to do is fill in information about the different areas in your workplace and the risks involved with your business, and a report will be generated to tell you how many first aiders you need, and the training they will require.

Once you have a clearer idea of what you need, we will be able to discuss pulling together the right training course for you.

Even if you already have first aiders on your team, keep in mind that the Health and Safety Executive HSE) recommends that everyone who has a First Aid qualification should take an annual 3-hour refresher course, to maintain their skill level, understanding of techniques, and confidence in performing them.

Our ‘First Aid at Work Annual Skills Update’ course costs £40 +VAT per person.

Factor #2 – The number of people you require to participate

If you only need 1-3 members of your team to become qualified as a First Aider, we recommend that they come along to one of our public courses. You can find the prices for these courses listed on our website.

If you want to provide training in-house for a larger group, we do offer a reduced rate – but that depends on the total number of participants. For all of our courses, the maximum number of participants is 12, to keep the course as useful and hands- on as possible.

We are very happy to travel to your premises to deliver the training. Please keep in mind that travel costs may need to be included as an additional expense, depending on where you are based.

Factor #3 – The level to which participants need to be trained

When asking “How much does first aid training cost”, you should also consider the level of training that is required.

The knowledge you need will depend on your specific circumstances – particularly in the workplace. As a result, we offer a variety of different courses to cater to all requirements.

For example, our public ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ course costs £90 per person.
This one-day course covers key subjects including:

  • CPR and defibrillation
  • The recovery position
  • Choking
  • Seizures
  • Shock
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Minor injuries.

Our public ‘First Aid at Work’ course, however, costs £240 per person. That is because the course is delivered over 3 days and the content is much more extensive.

Alongside the skills listed above, participants learn how to handle a wide range of other medical emergencies, including:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Fractures
  • Poisoning
    And much more!

As you can see, the cost of first aid training depends on the depth of knowledge you require.

Factor #4 – The level of experience the training company has
